This fall, Uber Eats will launch delivery with Nuro robots in Houston, San Francisco and Mountain View. The company hasn't yet announced how many devices it will use, but the initial fleet is expected to be small and the service will begin operating in experimental mode. In the future, Uber Eats plans to expand the delivery area to all of California and Texas.
Deliveries will be made using Nuro R2 robots, which are different from the usual robot couriers. Nuro R2 is times bigger and reaches the size of a compact sedan, which allows it to move not on sidewalks, but on public urban roads. The robot can reach speeds of up to 72 km/h with a total payload of more than a ton. Inside, there are compartments for placing boxes and grocery bags.

Uber Eats is also partnering with Serve Robotics, which supplies compact robot couriers that move along sidewalks. This type of delivery is available to Los Angeles residents.
