Potential Tesla Electric members will receive an invitation on the app. Powerwall owners will be able to sell and buy electricity as they consume it.

The heat of the summer and the increase in cryptocurrency mining is weakening Texas' energy infrastructure. The state has broken power consumption records, spending more than 78GW.

Tesla Electric is the company's new solution, which aims to build virtual power plants, including projects in Australia and Japan. Tesla is implementing the programme in conjunction with California utility PG&E. The parties intend to provide electricity to Tesla Electric's members during power shortages and emergencies.

Tesla Electric's plugged-in users have prevented power outages and earned $2 per kWh, the Verge says.
